Detroit Community Schools High School (DCHS) students appreciated the opportunity to learn the historical and societal impact of Harriet Tubman’s life through a descriptive movie field trip. The movie “Harriet” is a biographical film about Harriet Tubman – an escaped slave who became an abolitionist that liberated hundreds of other slaves through the Underground Railroad. Taking DCHS’ students’ learning beyond the classroom, the movie allowed students to understand one brave African American woman’s heroic resistance to slavery, during the Civil War.
